How to set up your above ground pool

Instructions for starting up your above ground pool

Above ground pools have many advantages: they are inexpensive, do not require permits for installation, are removable, and are easy to manage.
Let's see together how to carry out the first filling.

What water should be used to fill an above ground pool? What products are needed to treat the water?

Danny, your pool expert, answers.

Firstly, it is always advisable to fill the pool with tap water, so that the water is soft and low in iron and other minerals.
This is to avoid surprises when adding chemical products.
Indeed, it often happens, for example when using well water, which is rich in iron and other minerals, that the water turns brown or cloudy during the disinfection treatment, forcing the user to carry out long and complicated cleaning treatments.

Now let's look in detail at the chemical products you should always have available:

  • Granular Chlorine Diklor Shock Super
  • Ph Minus
  • Algastop
  • Multifunction Tablets Tablok Super

Use of chemical products

We divide chemical treatments into two types: shock treatment and maintenance.

Shock treatment should be carried out at the first filling or in case of sudden changes that modify the water's properties, for example after a thunderstorm or after the pool has been used by a larger number of bathers than usual.

Maintenance treatment, on the other hand, is the procedure to follow once a week to keep water values balanced and to extend the time between one shock treatment and another.

Shock treatment

  • Following the dosages on the package, pour the Diklor Shock Super product (the product should first be diluted with water in a bucket) into the pool along with the Algastop product and leave the filtration system running for at least 24 consecutive hours.
  • After a few hours, check the pH value with the appropriate tester. The pH value should always be between 7.2 and 7.4 to allow other products to work well. Certainly, after superchlorination, the pH will be high and it will be necessary to lower it using the pH Minus product, always with the system running.
  • A couple of hours after using pH Minus, repeat the test kit and, if necessary, repeat the operation until the pH has dropped to within the correct parameters.

Weekly maintenance

  • Following the dosages indicated on the package, place the Tablok Super multifunction tablets in the skimmer (they will dissolve in 3-4 days but the effect will last all week).
  • Check the pH value and correct it if necessary.
  • During the hottest weeks of the year, it is advisable to also use Algastop to help prevent algae formation.
N.B. = The filtration system should remain in operation 10-12 hours a day during the hottest months.

Using the filtration system in an above ground pool

Important: Every time the selector valve is touched, the pump must be turned off.

Here is the sequence of steps to perform each week to backwash the filter:

  • From the filtration position, switch to the backwash position for about 2 minutes until clean water is seen coming out of the drain.
  • At this point, set the selector valve to the rinse position for about 10 seconds.
  • Return the valve to the filtration position.
