Tips on pool treatments and chemicals
Hi, I'm Danny!
A swimming pool is not only a place for fun and relaxation, but also a structure that absolutely needs care, maintenance and a lot of attention.
Whether it's in-ground or above-ground, our pool must always have healthy and disinfected water.
To achieve the best results, especially for those who are not experts or have little time to dedicate to it, I am at your complete disposal to give you the right tips to put into practice immediately.
First of all, I suggest you get a high-performance filtration system, a Dolphin Maytronics pool cleaning robot, and perhaps support your cleaning work with a Blue Connect digital analyser.
However, the use of certified chemical products in granular, liquid or even tablet form, with well-defined dosages, remains fundamental.
Particular attention must be paid to chemical treatment, which must be carried out constantly and correctly to prevent the formation of algae, fungi and bacteria.
For accurate pool management, therefore, granular chlorine, pH regulators, algaecides and multi-function tablets are absolutely indispensable.
Chlorination treatment
Chlorine-based treatment is certainly the most common for disinfecting your pool. Thanks to its active function, it is able to eliminate viruses and bacteria present in the water and on the bottom and walls of the pool, so that swimmers can immerse themselves in total safety...
It is also the simplest method to carry out, as it is necessary to spread it directly into the water, obviously, and I really want to reiterate this, with calibrated dosages.
But when should granular chlorine be used in the pool? Only in exceptional cases: at the spring opening, at the winter closing and weekly, when the pool is open, especially in good weather and subject to constant bathing.
Active disinfection is only with our Diklor Super. It must be used, when necessary, always and only with stabilised pH and with the system on for 24 hours after dosing.
The most important value to check is the pH, or the degree of acidity of the water, which should be measured at least twice a week and should be between 7.2 and 7.5.
Moreover, if the water smells of chlorine, it most likely means that the pH is high and, therefore, there could be irritations and red eyes.
If, on the other hand, the water is oily and slippery, then the pH has a too low value, not usual, and, consequently, the water could be saturated and poorly oxygenated.
To raise or lower the acidity and/or basicity of your pool water, you just need to use pH Plus (suitable for shock treatments) or pH Minus (suitable for traditional dosages).
Flocculant treatment
There are many very often imperceptible dirt particles present in our pool water.
These are residues of sunscreens, tanning oils or fine dust, which "mix" with the water. In order to eliminate them completely, it is necessary to carry out the so-called flocculant treatment.
It is a process that aggregates all the aforementioned dirt micro-particles in the pool that are not retained by the filter.
Once compacted into larger particles, it will be possible to remove or filter them.
Our Tablok Super multi-function tablets with chlorine, algaecide, degreaser and flocculant also prevent acidity peaks.
Each tablet of this chemical product, to act correctly, must be placed in the suction skimmer or in the overflow channel of the pool.
Algaecide treatment
The last of the chemical pool treatments I would like to suggest in this dedicated focus and to keep as a reminder in case of need, is the algaecide-based one.
Algae in our pool water are tangible and visible, unlike chlorine and pH, which, instead, must be measured with appropriate testers.
To prevent the proliferation of algae in the water, it is also important to keep chlorine and pH values under control.
In summer, usually, pool water temperatures exceed 28 degrees; it is therefore preferable to use our Algastop at least once a week, especially on hotter summer days and obviously in conjunction with the use of the pool.
The chemical product in question is certified and acts on bacterial flora, avoiding and preventing the formation of algae. It is necessary to moderate the amount to be dosed and it should be poured into the skimmers and into the channel in the case of overflow pools.
In particular situations where algae are present in significant quantities, I recommend continuing with the indicated treatment and resorting to cleaning the bottom and walls of the pool with one of our Dolphin Maytronics pool robots.
